Generative AI is everywhere — popping up in boardrooms, creative meetings, and on just about every business strategy slide. It’s rapidly evolving into a general-purpose technology. But like any transformative technology, the decision to use it should always start with business value — whether that means solving a real challenge or creating a new opportunity that delivers measurable impact. AI isn’t here to replace business strategy, planning, or your team’s expertise. But in a world where most companies need to scale without the luxury of big budgets or extended timelines, AI offers an immediate advantage through its speed, scalability, and ability to produce production-ready outputs. At BRINK, our Generative AI Center of Excellence (CoE) is proving this every day — helping our teams and clients achieve an average of 50% gains in efficiency and throughput, while also transforming customer experiences with quicker, more personalized solutions. This means faster results, fewer repetitive tasks, and more time to focus on high-impact, strategic work that drives measurable outcomes.

As generative AI reshapes industries, businesses need more than technology — they need a strategic partner who can help them navigate this evolving landscape. That’s why BRINK created the Generative AI Center of Excellence (CoE), combining advanced engineering with creative strategy to deliver impactful, business-driven solutions.

To dive deeper into the vision behind this initiative, we sat down with Jamie DeAngelis, Head of Brand Strategy and Content at BRINK and the architect and leader of the Generative AI CoE.

Why did BRINK decide to establish a Generative AI Center of Excellence (CoE)?

Jamie DeAngelis: At BRINK, we’ve always understood that the most impactful innovations happen at the intersection of disciplines. And we’ve found that generative AI programs, in particular, require a multidisciplinary skill set to truly thrive. When generative AI started proving its transformative potential, we realized it wasn’t just a trend; it was a significant shift in how businesses could operate, innovate, and engage with their audiences. But while much of our technical AI expertise was still centered in our engineering hub, we knew that to unlock the full value of generative AI solutions required the kind of multidisciplinary work BRINK was already known for — combining technical precision with creative vision, design thinking, and strategic insight.

So, we created the Generative AI CoE to formalize that multidisciplinary framework. It’s a hub where all these skillsets intersect, allowing us to not only experiment and innovate internally but also build highly customized, impactful solutions for our clients. Our approach ensures that AI solutions are not just implemented in isolated pockets of an organization but are designed to work across an entire business — aligning AI programs with company-wide goals to maximize ROI and break down silos.

What do you see as the most significant benefit of a multidisciplinary perspective in generative AI projects?

Jamie DeAngelis: Generative AI is inherently multidisciplinary. It’s not just about coding a model or training data — it’s about integrating diverse perspectives to apply that technology in ways that are meaningful to human users, responsive to creative challenges, and aligned with business goals. Generative AI uniquely demands this balance because its applications often intersect with content, design, and strategy in ways that go beyond traditional AI projects. For example, a project might need an AI engineer to build or refine the model, a designer to make the output visually engaging, a strategist to ensure it supports a client’s objectives, and a content expert to test and refine its messaging.

Without this collaboration, you risk developing solutions that are technically impressive but fail to resonate with users or achieve the intended impact. That’s why our CoE includes members from every discipline across the agency, ensuring that diverse perspectives and expertise inform every project and drive truly innovative outcomes. And beyond just innovation, our structured approach ensures that AI is implemented strategically — not just for the sake of adopting AI, but to solve the right problems and drive business impact.

Can you share an example of how this multidisciplinary approach has played out in a real project?

Jamie DeAngelis: Absolutely. One great example is our work with a global real estate firm on their AI-powered natural language search tool. This project required input from multiple disciplines: technology experts and AI engineers evaluated and implemented the most effective technology infrastructure, CX and business strategists ensured it addressed a key customer experience challenge while aligning with corporate goals, and UX and visual designers crafted an intuitive user experience tailored to user needs. Additionally, content strategists played a critical role in preparing the unstructured data — articles and reports — ensuring it was cleansed and properly formatted to maximize the AI’s effectiveness.

Content and CX strategists also designed a rigorous output testing rubric and methodology, evaluated the results, and collaborated with engineers to refine the AI model for optimal outputs. This project exemplifies how generative AI solutions require diverse expertise to ensure the technology is not only functional but also impactful, effectively addressing both business objectives and user needs.

How does the Generative AI CoE help BRINK’s clients specifically?

Jamie DeAngelis: The CoE is essentially a powerhouse for solving complex challenges in ways that are faster, smarter, and more impactful. For clients, that means they get solutions that are not only innovative but also deeply customized to their needs. And it’s not just about large enterprise generative AI programs. Take our work with Form Technologies, where they faced the challenge of showcasing their capabilities while adhering to strict NDAs with clients in sensitive industries. They needed a way to visualize their expertise and the types of parts they could produce without revealing confidential client information. With our team’s expertise in generative AI, we crafted a tailored design solution by leveraging generative AI to blend and evolve real images. These were then further refined using traditional techniques in Photoshop, resulting in a distinctive, on-brand library of visual examples that fully complied with their NDAs.

With the CoE, clients don’t just get a technology solution; they get a strategic partner who understands their goals, their industry, and how to deliver measurable outcomes using AI. Whether it’s streamlining operations, enhancing customer experiences, or creating entirely new revenue streams, our multidisciplinary team is there to help them unlock possibilities they may not have even considered. And because we continuously experiment with AI in our internal R&D efforts, clients benefit from the latest AI advancements without taking on the risk themselves.

Generative AI is transforming industries and businesses — but how is it impacting the roles and skill sets within BRINK’s own team? How are you adapting to these changes?

Jamie DeAngelis: It’s a fascinating shift. AI is automating certain aspects of roles, like content creation or data analysis, but it’s also elevating the need for other skills — like strategic oversight and analysis and a deep understanding of AI technology. For instance, writers are no longer just writing; they’re curating and refining AI-generated content to ensure it aligns with a brand’s voice and business objectives. When they are still writing, they’re often writing for a new audience: generative AI. Considering generative AI as an audience requires both technical knowledge and a different strategic approach. At BRINK, content strategists are involved in writing and restructuring content to ensure it’s effective, accessible, and usable for AI systems. They also take a leading role in prompt engineering for enterprise solutions. Prompt engineering requires both a technical understanding of how AI functions and exceptional precision in crafting words, instructions, and descriptions — an area where content strategists naturally excel.

One of the ways the Generative AI CoE supports these shifts in skills is by bringing together team members from various disciplines to collaborate and learn from one another. For example, content strategists collaborate with AI engineers to gain the technical understanding necessary for preparing unstructured data and designing effective prompt engineering solutions. This cross-disciplinary interaction ensures that every team member has the tools and knowledge to apply their expertise effectively in generative AI programs.

Looking ahead, how do you see BRINK’s Generative AI CoE evolving?

Jamie DeAngelis: I see it becoming an even bigger driver of innovation — both for our clients and within our own agency. As generative AI continues to advance, we’ll continue to grow and innovate, helping clients not just follow AI trends but lead in their industries by leveraging AI strategically and responsibly. Ultimately, the CoE is about staying at the forefront of innovation, but always with a focus on how these advancements serve people and businesses.
